Keynote Speech (1) From Freud to Mind Biology: The Path of Dialogue between Art and Science

10/16 09:20-10:40

Dean of Huang Rongcun

Each era has its own special mental science problems. This speech will first use three types of historical scientific verifications: Molyneux question, subconscious and unconscious causal power, and free will to explain which development of contemporary brain science and neuroimaging should correspond to. The atmosphere of the times or the issues with the characteristics of the times. The most critical of these is a complete and effective mental biology. What parts need to be included and how long will it take to develop?

Eric Kandel (2012) pointed out that brain scans may have uncovered the neural signals of depression, but Beethoven symphonies show the real feeling of that melancholic state, so take this as an example of how the biology of mind can really be applied to art The dialogue with science and the subjective inner experience of human beings are topics worthy of future observation and development.

Keynote Speech (2)-1    Get rid of addiction: two or three things that practitioners must know
Addiction and Recovery: What the practitioner should know

10/16 11:00-12:30

SAM NAIFEH, MD

Addiction treatment practitioners are confronted with a challenging treatment environment. Worldwide, the international War on Drugs has failed to reduce the supply or consumption of illegal drugs. The drug war's law enforcement criminal justice model punishes the individual substance user with costly police procedure and imprisonment. A public health strategy for addiction treatment is more effective and far less costly. Within a health care model there is room for medication-based management as well as psychological counseling.

Modern psychological methods offer opportunities for assisting with the trauma of adverse childhood experiences, with the spiritual damage to self and family produced by years of addiction, and with the challenges of living sober and re-entering society and the workplace. In this presentation, special attention will be paid to management of relapses because both heroin and methamphetamine stimulant, major illicit drugs in Taiwan, are well-known to produce repeated relapses. There are effective medications (methadone, buprenorphine) to assist in managing opioid dependence. But, the treatments for stimulant dependence remain with several kinds of “talking” treatments, best carried out by trained practitioners and supported by community-based services. Practitioners must expect repeated relapses and high levels of treatment dropouts.

However, psychologists are well placed to use relapses as potential learning experiences on the irregular path to a stable recovery.

Keynote Speech (3) Ecopsychology and Green Care: Solving the Addiction of Civilization

10/17 09:00-10:20

Dr. Chen Junlin

Humans wake up from unconsciousness, emerge conscious self, and create a huge and convenient material civilization system, but it is becoming more and more difficult to extricate themselves. Ecopsychology and Green Care examines the drawbacks of alienation between man and nature, hoping to find a new model for eliminating addiction to material civilization and bridging the relationship between man and nature before the ecological environment collapses.
